Shocking Management Practice - Limnos Bakery
Limnos Bakers - 34 Somerset Road Sovereign Quay Entrance B Green Point
For the past five years I have been a frequent and mostly satisfied patron to Limnos Bakers in Green Point Cape Town. Close to a campus where I lecture and the fact that Limnos open at 06:30 most mornings made it a highlight to the start of a long day.
Unfortunately over the last few months I have witnessed some very primitive and destructive management behaviours diluting the Limnos Bakers quality values.
Limnos manager(s) arriving late...
On more than one occasion I had to phone one of the Limnos owners to open the coffee shop due to the frequent late arrivals of managers. This was mainly done for the staff that is so patiently waiting outside for the duty manager's arrival. With this lack of managerial discipline / ownership I have seen many customers leaving to rather visit one of the other coffee shops (Café Sophia in particular) less than two hundred meters away.
Limnos manager loud / shouting at staff
This is absolutely unacceptable - and almost happened every time a specific manager is on duty.On so many occasions have I asked her not to do this as everybody else in the shop could overhear these senseless rants.
Limnos manager with no interested in contingency / staff care - Friday 17 Sept 2010
On Friday morning (with the manager being late again for 15 minutes) I phoned her on her mobile - just to be told that there is an accident on the N2 and the Limnos staff can wait - even if it takes 1.5 hours. I asked her for a Limnos owner;s telephone number to manage a contingency, but it was refused. And bluntly the phone was put down in my ear. An absolute shocking response.
Linmos owners take note
Limnos managers with this attitude will drive your bakery and brand into the ground. A value brand is getting tainted in my opinion and unfair labour practices are happening daily on your Limnos Green Point property. The Limnos manager in question is a disgrace to your Limnos brand and I cannot believe these are the type of individuals you trust with your staff, Limnos brand and service delivery standards.
Superior choice - Café Sophia
I finally went to Café Sophia Green Point for the first time on Friday and what a revelation it was - the service was excellent with a very efficient and soft-spoken duty manager. 100% different from my recent Limnos experiences. Ditto for Café Sophia in Rondebosch which is an ultimate treat after long lecturing afternoons.
Limnos conclusion
This fine bakery / coffee shop in Green Point is operating on some sub-standard management practices with little intervention / leadership from the owners. After visiting Café Sophia on Friday morning I will personally never return to Limnos Bakers Green Point.
Limnos Green Point not recommended (for employment).
My Limnos management suggestion
Re-evaluate certain management positions at Limnos Green Point with possible replacement(s) to restore confidence in your Limnos brand, Limnos customers and Limnos staff.
