Own your corporate website’s online future and say good-bye to expensive Internet Marketing / SEO agencies. Get yourself and / or your staff trained in doing your own Internet Marketing and organic Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

In my training sessions with many Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg SME clients over the last 3.5 years I have listened over and over to how business owners and marketing practitioners are allowing and paying Internet Marketing and SEO agencies their advertising budgets to yield more online visitors and sales conversions - mostly without sustained brand building, visitation or ROI satisfaction.

The truth is that many of these agencies are charging thousands of Rands each month to provide (in many cases) nothing more than a few basic Google AdWords campaigns / reports, Google Analytics reports and a few recommendations they believe to be required for improved lead-to-sales conversions.

Fact is you can do your own Internet Marketing and SEO without any substantial resource allocations. A good understanding of the various Google applications and an interest / training in organic search engine procedures for your blog or website will see you with improved results within six months. And above all you will own the procedures, practices and ROI.

I am yet to see a well-defined and thoroughly prepared Internet Marketing and SEO management report interpreting Google AdWords / Analytics reports to provide meaningful recommendations. To be fair it is probably not their job - it is or should be yours. It will also depend what is written in the Service Level Agreement (SLA) - if one indeed exists.

This is good start if you do not want to be bothered in managing your own Internet Marketing or Online Advertising account. Or if you believe that you do not know enough to manage and deploy your own Online Marketing and SEO campaigns.

Who better to manage your own Internet Marketing and SEO campaign than yourself – or at least someone in your business that understands the business strategy, marketing opportunities and potential online sales and social media channels?

I am yet to see any visited SME that is satisfied with their external Internet Marketing and SEO agency.  The amounts that are being charged for deploying Google AdWords accounts and other so called SEO services are staggering – and these SME’s are not really benefiting from this practice.

In doing your own Internet Marketing and SEO a first step should be the development of a Body of Knowledge of the most applicable Internet Marketing / SEO processes and how it could benefit your business (and ultimately your bottom line). It is essential to research all the various options before selecting an action plan. An external Internet Marketing and SEO agency is one option - getting appropriate hands-on training for your and / or your staff should also be a serious consideration.
